I hope you are well. We are busy designing the new tashas Café store, due to open in April. We are looking for hand painted tiles with a Mediterranean inspired pattern that we can use as a floor insert. Would you be able to assist us with such a request?
What is the lead time on a project like this? We are looking at about 30sqm of floor tiles.

Yes, we could produce the tiles for you.
We shall issue quote options based on the lead-time, - longer lead-times will be more economical. Be so kind to provide us with the decorative brief, design, Plascon/Dulux ref. colours as soon as possible so that I can process the quotes and lead-times for you.

Gerrit: Just a quick enquiry regarding the scope of images, colour, etc. that you may be interested in for your project?
- Due to it being for the floor – I would suggest a matt glaze if it is in a high traffic area or a satin - gloss if anywhere else.
- Size: 100 x 100, 200 x 200, 150 x 150mm or custom size can be produced.
- Be so kind to forward any drawings regarding the areas where you want to install the tiles and Gillian, our designer, could possibly visualize some options for you.
- This is a link to just to show the scope of colours with tiles inspired by 16 century embroidery designs.
- I attach several images – but it is difficult to suggest options and searching through our archives without me knowing what you have in mind. Please send any ideas through so that I can work on it – even if it is only preliminary.
- The SCR-P HM Samples is R&D regarding Cuban styled tiles I am busy with – the rest is mostly based on Med-briefs that we have received and developed/customized.
Quotations: Please ignore prices on our websites due to our contract prices quoted at a substantial discount. As a small studio we deliver exceptional services, and to ensure our high standards, regarding all our customized orders, the deadline (working days to delivery), size and/or complexity/labour intensiveness of the order will be taken in consideration when quoting.

Neydine: I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, it has been manic this side. I will be able to issue a floor plan to you on Monday. Attached are image of the type and pattern style that we are looking for…
1. Sustainable handmade ceramic tile _ Pattern/colour
2. Navona _ the concept of imitating a rug with texture and simple lines
3. Dwelltiles _ shapes
4. Tapestry _ pattern installation
5. Dual Glaze _ colouring
The idea is to imitate a Mediterranean outdoor space or a Mediterranean ‘rug’, I will send more information on Monday, after meeting with the client. Maybe you have a few suggestions.

All of these can be produced and customized for your client – lets discuss it next week when I have the floor plan as well. The red in the dual glaze may present limitations for floors due to the “softer glazes” used to achieve those reds – but if red is a priority then I could suggest other reds or do some research.
I attach a few R&D images for projects that we are currently working on – both for floors – the hexagon for residential bathrooms and the herringbone for a hotel.
Neydine: I love the pigmentation and colouring of the R&D herringbone tiles, could you possibly send up a few samples for me? The shades of green are wonderful as well as the shades depicted on the right (all seven colours _ counting from the right hand side).

Notes:
- Multi coloured spades: The tiles can be produced in the shape of the spades and pastel coloration could make for a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.
- Dual glaze: Just some glaze from a previous contract that i fired for you.
- Octagon: Examples of another enquiry I am working on.
- Clayhouse: What do one call this pattern? Anyway, these are unglazed samples in preparation for your parcel on Monday.
Neydine: Thank you for your reply. Please can you send it to the JHB office. Attached is the floor layout, we have 2 options. The second option is the run the floor finish up onto the front of the counter as well.
I have to run to a meeting now but will give you a call to discuss everything in detail first thing on Monday morning.
Gerrit: The image is the samples being parceled for the courier at the moment – would you like me to add something, even if it is outside the scope of this brief?

Hexagon:
- I have some hexagon samples and will include some. Any additional shapes can be produced.
- These samples are small, but we can produce yours to a specified size.
- Half hexagons – we are producing hexagons today and will cut some, but yes we could provide pre-cut pièces of the original shape with an order – view herringbone replacement tile image.
Colour:
Gerrit: I expect your samples to be delivered tomorrow, unfortunately the 20kg parcel would have cost a few thousand rand for overnight delivery, and I opted for a more economical option.
Notes:
- I include images 7846, 7844 & Design Part Samples - with numbered tiles corresponding to the numbered labels on the back of the tiles in the parcel. You can refer to these for any queries and or discussion.
- These samples relate to R&D and surplus tiles from previous orders:
Floor tiles:
- The herringbone and nu. 47 have a Matt. Glaze optimized for floors.
Colour: Can be customized
- Various tiles will relate to reds, and your double glazed red will be possible – as soon as I know that it will be specified on this job will it be developed.
- Most colours specified could be formulated to a close match.
- I attach other files with colour samples > page – custom, pure and unique and all referring to R&D for previous projects.
Format: Can be specified
- The tiles are made with different clay bodies and using various techniques
- Some are flat, concave, convex, chunky, etc.
Shape: Can be specified
Hand Printed Tiles: 23, 24, 28, 30,45, 46 & 47 the rest are hand painted images or patterns
Embossed & Reliëf Tiles:
- 37 is a customized tile to match a specific commercial tile as specified by Nandos
- 43 is an embossed pattern, see attached images > Metro Pattern & Reliëf Brick > for a concept on a herringbone format
Lets speak sooner than later, to finalize the concept, have the samples produced and the deadline with quote processed.
Gerrit: Ek het so bietjie tyd en het 'n paar nuwe hoe temperatuur voorbeelde met rooie gedoen, môre word nog uit groot oonde gepak. Hoe hoër die temperatuur, hoe beter die kwaliteit, maar die belangrikste is die gevoel – lae temperatuur werk lyk meestal goedkoop daarom fokus ek meestal op die moeiliker maar meer eksklusiewe eindresultaat van steenware en porselein.
Ons produksie kapasiteit is ongeveer 100m2/maand, maar onthou dat voor produksie begin daar gewoonlik ontwerp en maak van moulds is, in julle geval die “onion” moulds, wat heeltemal droog moet wees voor vervaardiging begin – hoe meer moulds hoe vinniger vervaardig ons die bestelling – maar so 5 werksdae is gewoonlik voldoende.
Het die kliënt al ingeval met julle planne? Is dit nodig dat ek met daardie geel-lime kleur op jou eerste foto’s werk? – as julle al kleure bevestig het stuur dit aan dan kan ek solank formulasies toets. Ons het 'n Pantone Color Formula Guide – Coates Lorilleux op die perseel. Later die jaar opgradeer ons na APPLE Hardeware en n nuwe PC workstation vir ons DeskArt 3D Design Program – en sal dan terselfdertyd ons Pantone funksionaliteit verbeter.
Neydine: Dankie vir die oproep. Ek het maar so na as moontlik aan die samples die kleure gekies.
Hier is die kodes:
1. Grys = Dulux 30YY 56/060
2. Pink = 80YR 67/085
3. Off white = 30YY 78/035
4. Yellow (mosterd) = 40YY 67/196
5. Green of Terracotta = 60YY 74/072 of 70YR 48/195
Ek sal later as ek tyd het op die groottes werk.
Gerrit: Ek sal more aan die kleure werk.
Grotes van teëls:
Ons sal dit waardeer as jy die “onion tile” en die metro se grotes kan verifieer teen vandag anders Maandag, maar ons kan reeds môre aan die “master” werk? Dan kan ek die kleur toetse sommer op die finale grotes doen.
- Onion = +/- 200 x 100mm
- Metro = Tafel – dit lyk of +/- 150 x 80mm 'n goeie mate kan wees, 'n groot rooiwyn glas het 'n bodem van so 80mm.
Dikte van die teëls:
- Mure & Tafels: 8-10mm.
- Vloere: 15mm
Grout:
- Tafels: Ons kan dit so naby aan BUTT vervaardig as moontlik d.w.s. so 1mm grout spasie of groter?
Neydine: Hoe gaan dit? Hoe kom die samples aan? Sien asb aangeheg. Ons kan nou begin wikkel.
Praat gou weer!
Gerrit: Dankie vir die bestelling, Neydine, het nou net gewonder of ek maar solank die klei moet betaal sodat dit by die studio afgelaai kan word!
Samples: Ek is besig om produksie voorbeelde te vuur en behoort teen vanmiddag te weet hoe die kleure in die groot oonde reageer. Gillian is besig met die tafel se moulds, dus behoort ons teen Saterdag gou 'n paar samples te spoed droog en te vuur om saam met die onions gestuur te word. Die pakkie sal 'n bietjie later vertrek – maar ek sal dit oornag FedEx vir vroeg volgende week.
 Neydine: Hoe gaan dit? Wanneer kan ons nuwe samples verwag soos wat ons bespreek het verlede week? Kon julle die kleure ligter kry?
Gerrit: Goeie môre Neydine, die nuwe Onion samples is nou net uit die oonde en dit sal nog vanoggend hier vertrek.
Die teëls moet nou deur 'n ekstra proses geneem word wat meer tyd in beslag neem om die ligter toonwaardes te bewerkstellig. Die aanwending van die kleur op die “onion shape” om die vloei van kleur te kry is ook meer tydsaam omrede die vorm van die teel.
Ons het reeds 2000 Onions vervaardig en is besig om dit deur die BG. Proses te stuur, sodat dit onmiddellik geglasuur kan word sodra julle bevestig dat julle van die nuwe kleure hou. Teen die einde van die week behoort ons klaar te wees met die “onion blanks”.
Omtrent al die oorspronklike kleure het grys pigmente as 'n deel van die formulasies gehad – die het ek nou verwyder en saam met die nuwe proses vertoon nou so naby as ek kan met die metro voorbeelde.
As julle die kleure goedkeur dan kan ons reeds hierdie week glasuur anders gaan ons erg agterraak.
Transport: Ons kan moontlik die teëls stuur soos ons dit klaarmaak. Onder is 'n kwotasie wat ek ontvang het vir transport. Ek skat dit op 'n minimum van 1500kg.
